Welcome to the Home Page of UPC Award-winning author James Stevens-Arce.

Jim writes novels, short stories, stage plays, screenplays, and pop songs. His first novel, SOULSAVER (Harcourt 2000), won the UPC Award — Europe’s top literary award for science fiction novels, was named Best First Novel 2000 by The Denver Rocky Mountain News, was listed among the Best Books of the Year 2000 by The San Francisco Chronicle and Recommended Reading List 2000 by Locus Magazine, and was published in translation in Spain as EL SALVADOR DE ALMAS and France as SAUVEURS D’ÂMES.

Jim also has published some 25 pieces of short fiction in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Italy, and Spain. His stories have appeared in such magazines as Asimov’s Science Fiction, Amazing Stories, Aboriginal SF, and Cicada, among others, as well as in original anthologies edited by Mike Resnik & Martin Greenberg, Greg Bear, David Gerrold, George Zebrowski, and Pamela Sargent & Ian Watson, among others.

His short story Cycles earned an Honorable Mention in THE YEAR’S BEST SCIENCE FICTION: THIRD ANNUAL COLLECTION. His novelette The Devil’s Sentrybox did the same in THE YEAR’S BEST FANTASY AND HORROR: FIFTH ANNUAL COLLECTION. And his short story Smart Bomb did likewise in THE YEAR’S BEST SCIENCE FICTION: TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL COLLECTION.
