The Dramatists Guild Of America

The Dramatists Guild of America is the only professional association for playwrights, composers, and lyricists. Guided by an elected Council, which gives its time, interest and support for the benefits of writers everywhere, the Guild works to advance the rights of its more than six thousand members spanning around the globe. Membership is open to all dramatic writers, regardless of their production history. Membership application available online.

Horror Writers Association

The Horror Writers Association (HWA) is a worldwide organization of writers and publishing professionals dedicated to promoting the interests of writers of Horror and Dark Fantasy. It was formed in the 1980's with the help of many of the field's greats, including Joe Lansdale, Robert McCammon, and Dean Koontz. HWA now has members throughout the United States, Canada, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Australia. Includes reading lists, writing tips, horror links, member pages, and more. Mystery Writers of America

Mystery Writers of America, Inc., is the premier organization for mystery writers and other professionals in the mystery field. MWA watches developments in legislation and tax law, sponsors symposia and mystery conferences, presents the EdgarSM Awards, and provides information for mystery writers. Membership in MWA is open to published authors, editors, screenwriters, and other professionals in the field.

National Writers Union

The National Writers Union (NWU) is the trade union for freelance writers of all genres who work for American publishers or employers. They say they are committed to improving the economic and working conditions of freelance writers through the collective strength of their 5500 members in 17 local chapters throughout the country. They describe themselves as a modern, innovative union offering grievance resolution, industry campaigns, contract advice, health & dental plans, member education, job banks, networking, social events, and much more. The National Writers Union is affiliated with the United Automobile Workers (UAW) and through them with the AFL-CIO. Membership application available online.

Romance Writers of America

Romance Writers of America (RWA) is a non-profit professional/educational association of 8,200 romance writers and other industry professionals. It provides networking and support to individuals seriously pursuing a career in romance fiction. According to Past President Olivia Hall, "RWA provides its members with the wonderful opportunity to share experiences with other writers, to gain insights into publishing, as well as the art and craft of writing, and to meet industry professionals. Together, we are a strong and determined voice; a voice for romance with the media, and a voice for writers to the publishing industry." Includes links to authors, RWA chapters, publishers, and more. Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America

Science Fiction Writers of America was founded in 1965 by Damon Knight, who also served as its first president. In 1992, the membership voted to officially change the name to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. (SFWA). SFWA has brought together the most successful and daring writers of speculative fiction throughout the world, and has grown in numbers and influence until it is now widely recognized as one of the most effective non-profit writers' organizations in existence. Over 1200 sf and fantasy writers, artists, editors, and allied professionals are members.Although you must qualify with genre sales to become a member, this site offers articles on craft, contracts, electronic rights, and dangers that will benefit any writer. Sisters in Crime

Sisters in Crime is an international organization of writers, readers, booksellers, librarians, agents, editors, reviewers and teachers interested in promoting the work of women mystery writers. Sisters in Crime promotes all types of writing in the mystery/suspense genre from cozy to hardboiled, as well as true crime, nonfiction, novels and short stories for readers of all ages. Is SinC just for women? Not at all. Men who want to see that women authors get a fair deal in the mystery field are more than welcome. We cherish our male "sisters."

Writers Guild of America

Guild for screen and television writers. Includes research links, writing tips, articles, an online mentor program, a list of signatory agents and agencies, interviews with working screenwriters, profiles, links to member sites, membership requirements, script registration and other services, contact information, and more.
